Fauna Invisível

Overview

The “Fauna Invisível” project, developed in collaboration with Estadão, is an award-winning special feature that highlights the hidden biodiversity of the Atlantic Forest. As the lead designer, developer, and creative concept lead, I aimed to create an immersive and interactive experience. I developed a visually appealing interface for both desktop and mobile users and participated in front-end development using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to implement engaging interactions and animations.

I designed various dynamic interactions, including animations and interactive elements, to enrich the user experience and highlight important information about the featured species. Additionally, I ensured the mobile version was responsive and optimized while maintaining the quality of the desktop version. “Fauna Invisível” was awarded in the main categories of the Petrobras Journalism Award for its innovation and quality in content presentation.

Process

Extensive Research and Concept Development

Firstly, I conducted extensive research on the hidden biodiversity of the Atlantic Forest. This involved collaborating with journalists, photographers, and infographers to gather detailed information and visual content. The goal was to understand the unique aspects of the fauna and create a compelling narrative that would engage the audience.

Building on Strong Foundations

Based on the research, I developed the creative concept and mapped out the project’s functionality and structure. This stage included designing wireframes and creating a high-fidelity prototype. Usability testing was conducted to refine the design and improve the user experience. The final design featured interactive elements, animations, and a responsive layout to ensure accessibility across desktop and mobile devices.

Challenges

The project posed several challenges, including tight deadlines and a vast amount of material to cover. Balancing the comprehensive research, content creation, and design implementation within the limited timeframe required meticulous planning and coordination. Ensuring a seamless integration of visual and interactive elements while maintaining the project’s high quality was a significant challenge that we successfully overcame.

Collaborating with the Internal Team

Throughout the process, I worked closely with the editorial and technical teams, including the project’s creator, journalist Herton Escobar, to ensure the project met all requirements and aligned with Estadão’s brand identity. This collaboration was crucial for integrating the design with the content and ensuring a seamless user experience.
